Planner (Project Schedule)

A Gantt-based project schedule with critical-path computation, resource levelling, baselines and earned value — reached from a project's Planning tab.

Where it is

Open a project, go to its Planning tab, and click Open schedule. This opens /admin/projects/{projectId}/schedule — the schedule has its own full-width page rather than sharing space with the project tabs, because a Gantt chart needs the room.

Building the schedule

  • Compute runs Critical Path Method (CPM) over the schedule's tasks and dependencies: early/late start and finish dates, total and free float, and which tasks are on the critical path. The result is saved, not just displayed — reopening the schedule later still shows the last computed dates.
  • Generate with AI asks the Planner Agent to draft the schedule's tasks and dependencies from a description, when the engineering-calculations entitlement is enabled for your plan. Without that entitlement the button is visible but disabled, with a tooltip explaining why.
  • A dependency that would create a cycle is rejected when you try to create it, and computing a schedule with one refuses with an error rather than looping forever.

Views

  • Gantt and Table — a toggle switches the whole page between the visual Gantt (virtualised rows, dependency arrows, a critical-path highlight and a today marker) and a plain sortable table of the same tasks.
  • Day / Week / Month zoom on the Gantt.
  • Clicking a task opens the task edit dialog (dates, duration, dependencies, and an optional manual budget — left blank, the budget is derived from the task's assigned resources).

Levelling

Level runs resource levelling: it moves tasks forward, spending float first, until no single day asks more of a resource than it has capacity for. It only works once the schedule has been computed, since levelling starts from the CPM early dates. A Levelled switch on the Gantt draws the levelled dates instead of the CPM ones, and the resource histogram follows the same switch.

Baselines and earned value

  • Baseline freezes the current dates, durations and costs under a name you give it. Once you have at least one baseline, selecting it from the baseline picker draws its tasks as ghost bars underneath the live Gantt bars, and a variance column in the table shows how far each task has slipped (or pulled ahead) against it.
  • The earned value card reports PV/EV/AC, schedule and cost variance, SPI/CPI, and a forecast (EAC/ETC/VAC) as of a status date you choose, plotted as an S-curve. Values that cannot be computed (for example a zero denominator in an index) show as blank rather than a misleading zero.

Resources — in progress

The schedule reads resource assignments to drive the histogram and to derive a task's cost when no manual budget is set, but there is currently no page in the web app to create a resource or assign one to a task — that UI is being built separately. Until it ships, the resource histogram and cost-derived budgets stay empty for a schedule with no resources assigned another way.

Limits

  • No drawing-dependency links on the Gantt — a task's dependencies are schedule tasks, not drawing elements.
  • No schedule export yet.
  • Resource create/assign UI is in progress (see above); the histogram and levelling still work correctly once resources exist, they are just not yet creatable from this page.
