Continuation States

Every off-sheet connector (a pipeline or signal line that leaves one sheet and should pick up on another) is given a state — matched, orphaned or ambiguous — so a reviewer can tell at a glance which continuations have no counterpart before a drawing set is issued.

On the canvas

Where a connection crosses a sheet boundary, a continuation marker is drawn on the canvas, colour-coded by state:

ColourStateMeaning
GreenMatchedExactly one continuation on the far sheet refers back to this one
RedOrphanedNothing on the far sheet continues this line — or the far end is on no sheet at all
YellowAmbiguousMore than one candidate on the far sheet could be the counterpart (usually a duplicate line number)

Clicking a matched or ambiguous marker opens a small popover naming the counterpart sheet and, for an ambiguous marker, listing every candidate. Choosing a candidate pulses the corresponding connection on that sheet so it is easy to find. An orphaned marker has no counterpart to show and is not clickable.

The Continuations register

Open the left panel's Drawings tab (next to Symbols and Templates) to see the sheet/area tree. Below it is the Continuations section — a flat list of every continuation across the whole drawing, not just the current sheet, so a reviewer does not have to click through every sheet individually.

  • Filter chips — Orphaned, Ambiguous, Matched, All. Orphaned is selected by default, because that is the state that should block issuing the drawing set.
  • Clicking a row opens the sheet the continuation sits on and pulses its connection, the same as clicking its marker on the canvas.
  • A refresh button re-runs the check across every sheet, in case sheets were edited since the panel opened.

Limits

  • A continuation's state is computed from line numbers and service, not from a true point-to-point link — two lines share a counterpart if the engine's matching rule considers them a match (matched on connection id, or on line tag + service). A line renumbered on one sheet but not the other will show as orphaned even though a human would recognise it as the same line.
  • The register queries every sheet in the drawing each time it runs. On a very large multi-sheet drawing, expect a short delay after Refresh rather than an instant update.
