Calculation Methods
N2O Emissions
From BNR processes: $$E_{N2O} = N_{removed} \times EF_{N2O} \times \frac{44}{28} \times 298$$
Where:
- EF = Emission factor (0.01-0.02 kg N2O-N/kg N)
- 44/28 = N2O to N ratio
- 298 = GWP of N2O (100-year)
CH4 Emissions
From anaerobic digestion: $$E_{CH4} = Q_{biogas} \times %CH4 \times (1 - \eta_{collection}) \times 25$$
Where:
- η_collection = Collection efficiency (typically 95-99%)
- 25 = GWP of CH4 (100-year)
Energy Emissions
$$E_{electricity} = kWh \times EF_{grid}$$
Grid factors (kg CO2e/kWh):
| Region | Factor |
|---|---|
| UK | 0.21 |
| EU Average | 0.28 |
| US Average | 0.42 |
| France | 0.06 |
