Server-Side Validation

The validation panel merges two checks — an instant client check as you draw, and a deeper server check run on save — into one list, so both kinds of problem show up in the same place.

Where it is

In the Draw toolbar, the Validation button opens a panel floating at the bottom-right of the canvas. The button's badge shows the current issue count and turns red once there is at least one issue; it turns green while the panel is open and clean.

What the two sources check

  • Live (client) — runs inside the browser as you edit: is this symbol connected, does it have a label, does it overlap another. It updates as you draw and cannot see anything outside the current model.
  • Server — runs on save (at most once every 30 seconds) or on demand, over the drawing as it is actually saved. It can check things the live pass cannot: whether the whole drawing agrees on units (for example, one vessel in psi while the rest are in bar), and whether a company's own validation policy is being followed.

Every issue in the list carries a badge naming which source found it.

Controls

  • Run server validation — runs the server rule set immediately, rather than waiting for the next save.
  • Go to element (on an issue) — selects the element and pans the canvas to it.
  • Rules — Admin/Owner only. Opens the rule catalogue, where a rule's severity can be re-graded (error / warning / info) or turned off for the whole company. Any other role can view the catalogue but not change it.

Issues are sorted error, then warning, then info.

The rule set

The server checks 11 rules (V-001–V-011): duplicate equipment tags, broken pipeline connectivity, missing instrument loop primary elements, valve/line size mismatches, orphaned elements, discontinuous line runs, ISA tag format, equipment tag format, unconnected nozzles, missing line numbers, and mixed-unit properties. Full descriptions are in the Drawing Validation feature page.

Limits

  • The server pass reads the last saved version of the drawing, not the canvas as it currently stands. "Run server validation" on a drawing with unsaved edits validates what was last saved, not what is on screen.
  • V-004 and V-011 (size and unit checks) only see properties that are actually filled in on the element. A drawing whose sizes live only in a linked datasheet will not trigger either rule.
  • A handful of live-engine issues are matched to their server equivalent so they do not appear twice; anything outside that mapping can appear once from each source for the same underlying problem.
